The National Maritime Museum in Amsterdam welcomes Rapti Miedema as the new Head of Audiences.

Rapti joins from the Mondriaan Fund, where, as Head of Heritage & Pilots, she developed various grant programs to make heritage collections more accessible to a wide audience. Innovation, promoting co-creation, and digital transformation were her key priorities. With over twenty years of experience in the cultural sector, including roles at festivals and museums, she brings extensive expertise in audience engagement, collection research, and international collaboration.

"The National Maritime Museum offers wonderful opportunities to engage a broad audience with universal themes related to the maritime world,” says Rapti. “I look forward to expanding the museum’s reach and impact by placing visitors’ backgrounds and life experiences more at the center.”

In her new role, Rapti will focus on developing innovative programs, with the collection serving as a starting point for dialogue and connection. She aims to invite a diverse audience to experience the museum as a place of recognition and inspiration.

Director Michael Huijser is delighted with her arrival: “Rapti’s drive and innovative approach to audience engagement are exactly what we need. Her in-depth knowledge of heritage and talent for connecting with the public make her an ideal asset. With Rapti on board, we are making great strides toward a more engaged and socially relevant museum.”
